Mahoning Valley Veterans Day Program


Youngstown, OH, November 1, 2017:  The United Veterans Council of Greater Youngstown and Its Environs in coordination with the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission will hold its annual Veterans Day Program at the Mahoning County Courthouse on Saturday, November 11th.  A reception will be hosted by David Ditzler, Carol Rimedio-Righetti, and Anthony Traficanti, the Mahoning County Commissioners with light refreshments preceding the program, which begins at 11am.


Corban Baker from WYTV will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Corban is a Valley native, graduating from Brookfield High School in 2003. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2003 to 2008 and is a veteran having served two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Youngstown State University ROTC Color Guard and Barbara Zorn are doing the presentation of colors and National Anthem.  

Special guest, Nichole Coleman, is the keynote speaker. Nichole Coleman is a County Veterans Service Officer and the Executive Director of the Hancock County Veterans Service Office.  During her seven years in the U.S. Air Force, Nichole provided security for the Electronic Security Command in Texas and in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. She also provided public relations support and media coverage during Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia.  In 2016, Nichole was appointed to serve a three year term on the Advisory Committee on Veterans' Employment, Training, and Employer Outreach for the U.S. Department of Labor.  She was recently elected to serve a second term as the President for the Ohio State Association of County Veterans Service Officers and serves on the Executive Board for the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.


In addition to the acknowledgement of the area’s veterans service, an’ emphasis to the 100th anniversary of women serving in the armed forces, and tribute to the Man of the Monument will be included.
