[ARCHIVED] Upcoming Project information: County Engineer Plans Intersection Improvement New Road/Raccoon Rd

Upcoming project information: Mahoning County Engineer Plans Intersection Improvement at New Road/Raccoon Road in Austintown Township - Project No. 107273

To better serve the needs of the traveling public, Mahoning County Engineer Patrick Ginnetti intends to improve the New Road and Raccoon Road intersection in Austintown Township, Mahoning County, Ohio and to solicit your comments about the proposed project. The project proposes to improve signal visibility, increase pedestrian safety with automated crosswalks, improve traffic operations, reduce queues, and provide dedicated left-turn lanes by updated pavement markings.

Construction for the project is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2019. During construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times except when temporary closures of the entire roadway will be required to permit the removal and installation of new overhead signal supports; these closures would be in the presence of a police officer and would last no more than 15-20 minutes. Signage, drums, and cones will be used to help guide motorists through the work zone. Detailed construction, lane restriction and road closure information will be posted along New Road and Raccoon Road and on the Mahoning County Engineer's webpage, http://www.mahoningcountvoh.gov/188/Engineer, prior to the start of project construction. No existing pedestrian facilities exist at the project location; therefore, maintenance of pedestrian traffic is not anticipated. Access to all properties within the construction limits will be maintained at all times during construction of the project.

To ensure the decision making process is comprehensive, Mahoning County Engineer, Patrick Ginnetti is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts include those involving archeological, architectural and ecological resources, regulated materials, and the general location of the project. The Mahoning County Engineer also requests information regarding the presence of any known cultural resources in the vicinity of the project including prehistoric and historic archeological sites, historic bridges, historic buildings, landmarks and districts.

Any questions or comments concerning the project should be directed to Mr. Bob Durbin, P.E. by August 30th, 2018 at the Mahoning County Engineer's Office, 940 Bears Den Road, Youngstown, Ohio 44511 by electronic mail at [email protected] or by telephone at 330-799-1581 Ext. 8111.
