[ARCHIVED] Mahoning County Commissioners will bring housing solutions to the homeless veterans

Youngstown, Ohio –The Board of Mahoning County Commissioners has encouraged housing for homeless veterans, and with the partnership of the Veteran Services of Family & Community Services, (F&CS), a grant has been awarded to provide housing to homeless veterans, men, women, and women and children.

 

Mahoning County and Family & Community Services is proud to collaborate with Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority on providing additional housing units for homeless veterans.  A grant in the amount of $741,851.00 will provide for housing veterans in Mahoning County. The new housing sites will be made up of 15-units to accommodate homeless veterans.


Mahoning County Commissioner, Carol Rimedio-Righetti, spearheaded the efforts to complete this project.  Family & Community Services funded by the Veterans Services Administration, will bring housing solutions to the homeless veterans of Mahoning County.


Based in Ravenna, Ohio, Family & Community Services already has a number of programs to serve veterans in Ohio. “With rates of veteran homelessness on the rise, we needed to expand our services to meet their unique needs”, explains Matthew Slater, Director of Veteran Services for Family & Community Services.


The Board of Mahoning County Commissioners would like to invite members of the community to a press conference on Thursday, September 6, 2018, 10:00 a.m., when they hold their regularly scheduled Board Meeting in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room, 120 Market Street, lower level, Youngstown, Ohio.
