Auditor Releases Tax Rate Comparison Changes from Tax Year 2017 to Tax Year 2018

Mahoning  County -In response to taxpayer inquiries, Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham has posted a Mahoning County Tax Rate Comparison for Tax Year 2018-Calendar Year 2019.  Available on the County Auditor's website, the comparison provides the net changes in tax rates by district for tax years 2017 versus 2018.  These effective tax rates are applied to the assessed value of the properties in calculating property taxes.  The rate comparisons provided are for residential and agricultural properties.  Changes in tax rates are the result of changes in tax levies, changes in assessed property values, and collection factors.  All properties in Mahoning County were subject to a revaluation in tax year 2017 for calendar year 2018.  Provided in the comparison are the 20 taxing districts that had changes in voted millage and the levies that generated the changes.

Auditor Meacham explains, "It is vital that taxpayers understand the components that determine their property taxes. In coming weeks I will be releasing additional information to assist them in this process."

The comparison is attached and can also be found in the Financial Documents section of the Auditor's webpage on the Mahoning County Communicator at https://www.mahoningcountyoh.gov.
