Mahoning Soil & Water District Holds Holiday Birdseed Sale
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (December 19, 2019) – The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District recently announced its holiday birdseed sale which will take place from now until supplies last.
Locally produced 25-pound bags of wild birdseed are $10 each and can be purchased by calling the Soil & Water office at (330) 740-7995.
The mix includes 40 percent sunflower, 20 percent millet, 20 percent wheat and 20 percent cracked corn.
“We can’t forget about our feathered friends during the winter season,” says Kathleen Vrable-Bryan, Mahoning Soil & Water district administrator. “Many of their natural seed and food sources are depleted or limited, so it’s important to feed them during these months, which will also help them to prepare for a better spring mating season.”
Birds protect our drinking water by preventing erosion. They also help to conserve soil quality by controlling pests, spreading seeds and pollinating plants.
