State Auditor’s Report Issued
Mahoning County Finances Reviewed
Mahoning County - Ohio State Auditor Keith Faber has released The Independent Auditor’s Report for Mahoning County for fiscal year ending December 31. 2021. The entire report can be found on the Mahoning County Auditor’s website on the Financial Documents tab, under 2021 ACFR (Annual Comprehensive Financial Report).
From the Independent Auditor’s Report:
“In our opinion, the accompanying financial statements referred to above present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position of the governmental activities, the business-type activities, the discretely presented component unit, each major fund, and the aggregate remaining fund information of the Mahoning County, Ohio as of December 31, 2021, and the respective changes in financial position and, where applicable, cash flows thereof and the respective budgetary comparisons for the General and Criminal and Administrative Justice, Children Services Board, Developmental Disabilities Board, and American Rescue Plan Act funds for the year then ended in accordance with the accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America. “
Included in the Auditor’s Report on Internal Controls, the Auditor states: “We identified a certain deficiency in internal control, described in the accompanying schedule of findings as item 2021-001 that we consider to be a material weakness.” This was the only finding by the Auditor and is included in the Report. Auditor Meacham chose not to respond within the Report, but concurs with the findings of the State Auditor.
