Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel will join Auditor Ralph Meacham for a press conference in the Commissioners Hearing Room at 1:45 p.m. today regarding online access to Mahoning County payroll information.
Working with the office of Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, Mahoning County will provide this information through ohiocheckbook.com. Auditor Meacham said: "County payroll information has been subject to public records requests for some time. Taxpayers will now have easier access to the county payroll through a portal on the County Auditor's website. For all departments in the county except the Sheriff and Prosecutor's Office, name, position description, department, and 2015 total compensation will be provided. For the Sheriff s Office and
Prosecutor's Office, initials will be used instead of names. While employee names are subject to Public Records requests, given the nature of their work, I decided not to put the names online. "
Under the guidance of Auditor Meacham, Mahoning County was the first local government in Ohio to enroll in ohiocheckbook.com.
Like ohiocheckbook.com and the Oakhill study, the online availability of payroll advances Auditor Meacham's commitment to increased citizens' transparency.
Auditor Meacham encourages taxpayers with questions to call his office for further information.
