[ARCHIVED] Juvenile Court Magistrate Anthony D’Apolito To Present at Ohio Supreme Court's Judicial College

JUVENILE COURT MAGINSTRATE ANTHONY D’APOLITO TO PRESENT AT OHIO SUPREME COURT’S JUDICIAL COLLEGE

Youngstown, Ohio August 10 , 2016 Mahoning County Juvenile Court is proud to announce that Magistrate Anthony M. D’Apolito will be a presenter on Friday August 12, 2016 at the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Judicial College.

Magistrate D’Apolito will be addressing the State of Ohio, via teleconference regarding Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiatives (JDAI).

JDAI, as it is more commonly known, is a project started by the Annie Casey Foundation to reduce the numbers of juveniles in detention and to focus on creating and implementing programs designed to find alternate ways to motivate and rehabilitate youth.

“It is in the best interest of youth and the community served by Mahoning County Juvenile Court to not rely on detention to address juvenile delinquency. Research has shown that addressing the core causes of delinquency in most cases, produces better results in terms of lowering recidivism. While JDAI still holds youth accountable, it challenges juvenile courts to respond in ways that place the focus on rehabilitation which is not only in everyone’s best interest, but also a more financially prudent approach. It costs states approximately $407.58 per youth per day and $148,767 per youth per year to detain a youth. ” - Magistrate Anthony D’Apolito

Mahoning County Juvenile Court has been a pioneer in JDAI and Magistrate D’Apolito will share the Court’s experiences and expertise with the State of Ohio.
